The NFC East is going to have a much different appearance in the 2019 NFL season, and the Philadelphia Eagles will “open and close” their schedule against it.
After the regular season schedule dropped on Wednesday, it revealed that the Eagles' will host the Washington Redskins in the opener on Sept. 8.
The Eagles are also the only team in the league that has to play each of their rival franchises in the final four weeks leading up to the playoffs, They host the New York Giants, head to Washington, come back home for the Dallas Cowboys, and then visit New York to wrap things up.
The Week 14 Monday Night Football meeting with the Giants should be an interesting one, to say the least. It will be the first time Philly squares off against their offense without the presence of Odell Beckham Jr., who has often made the Eagles' secondary miserable since his arrival to the division in 2014.
Eli Manning, who hasn't enjoyed his trips to Lincoln Financial Field in the past, remains the starting quarterback. While this bodes well for the 2018 Super Bowl Champs, Saquon Barkley makes this affair no walk in the park.
The Eagles shouldn't have much of a problem against the Washington Redskins, especially in their kickoff, as the Redskins are still working to mend the injury loss of Alex Smith. None of the Redskins' remaining options, most notably Case Keenum, have done much to pester the Philly defense. We'll see what develops between Weeks 2 and 15.
The Cowboys are the reigning division champions, and should make a run at that again. Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, and Amari Cooper swept Doug Pederson's squad last year. But the Eagles are already privy to their identity, and have a new-and-improved one for themselves following an epic free agency.
With the addition of Jordan Howard in the backfield, and DeSean Jackson's return to the receiving corp, it's likely the narrative will change this season.
