Injuries have ravaged the Philadelphia Eagles cornerback room. Therefore, they are bringing back veteran cornerback Orlando Scandrick, the team announced on Friday. In a corresponding move, Philadelphia released linebacker L.J. Fort.

On Thursday, the Eagles left Green Bay with a 34-27 win and two healthy cornerbacks.

Ronald Darby missed the entire game with a hamstring injury that should sideline him for a month. Then, Avonte Maddox and Sidney Jones suffered injuries that took them out of Thursday's thriller. Cornerbacks Jalen Mills and Cre'Von LeBlanc won't be available to play until mid-season due to their placements on reserve/injured lists.

Before Scandrick's arrival, Philadelphia's only healthy cornerbacks were Rasul Douglas and Craig James — the latter being a recently promoted practice squad member. He spent time with the Eagles in training camp before being released.

At 32, Scandrick is far from his high-level playing days in Dallas. In 2018, as a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, he allowed 535 yards and five touchdowns in coverage, according to Pro Football Reference. His ideal placement for the Eagles should be in the slot, where he played in the preseason. Playing inside should mask his athleticism and maximize benefits of his experience and veteran savvy.

The Eagles may continue to make moves in the secondary if Maddox and King are out for extended periods of time. They could do so by signing a free agent off the street or a practice squad, or make a splashy trade for a big-time cornerback available like the Jacksonville Jaguars' Jalen Ramsey.
