The Philadelphia Eagles are one injury away from a really weird quarterback situation. Third string signal-caller Cody Kessler went down with an injury during Thursday's game, making fifth-round rookie Clayton Thorson the only healthy option. Primary backup Nate Sudfeld hurt his wrist in the first week of preseason.

This will obviously lead to some free agent pickup, because if Thorson gets hurt, there's literally no other quarterback on the team. Head coach Doug Pederson seemed optimistic about the situation when speaking to the official Eagles website, via Pro Football Focus.

“We’ll evaluate Cody tomorrow and again over the weekend, but we’re going to get through the next few days, obviously, really excited for Clayton tonight. We’re just going to evaluate where we are and make a decision as we go.” Pederson said

If Kessler is ready for Week 3, the Eagles probably won't make any signing. But without Kessler, they pretty much have to. The options at the position are uninspiring at best. At the top of the list are guys like Brock Osweiler and Matt Cassel, so that should give you an idea of the type of player we're dealing with.

This may seem like an unimportant topic, but there is some meaning behind it. If neither Kessler or Sudfeld is healthy for Week 1, it doesn't look good for Philly. Starter Carson Wentz has a long injury history. The Eagles don't have super-sub Nick Foles to save them anymore, and it doesn't look like Thorson is ready for the job.
