The Carolina Panthers' search for their next executive vice president will continue. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles have denied the Panthers' request to interview their vice president of football operations Andrew Berry.

Rapoport notes that the Cleveland Browns are requesting to interview him for their vacancy at general manager. The Eagles cannot deny that request due to the stature of the position.

The Eagles were able to block the Panthers' interview because they weren't offering him a true position. Now, unless the Browns or another team offer him the GM job, he is expected to work under Howie Roseman's staff in 2020.

Unlike the Browns, the Panthers currently have a general manager staffing the team. However, they could have been looking at Berry as their general manager of the future. They could have theoretically groomed him under Marty Hurney until the 63-year-old retires or departs.

The Panthers' staff does have some familiarity with Berry. In 2019, they hired away former Eagles staffer Taylor Rajack to be their first-ever director of football analytics. Under David Tepper, who bought the franchise two years ago, Carolina has departed with much of their previous regime, highlighted by firing longtime head coach Ron Rivera midseason.

For the Eagles, there is still a possibility that Berry leaves. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Sunday that he is the “favorite” to be the Browns' next general manager.

Much like other successful teams, the Eagles' front office has been plucked by other teams needing executives to build their respective franchises.
