It's been a unique path for Philadelphia Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata, who has only been playing football for three years after a rugby career in Australia. But, all of his hard work has paid off as the Eagles awarded him with a four-year, $64 million extension on Saturday to be one of Jalen Hurts' key protectors for the distant future:

As mentioned by Schefter, the deal could reach $80 million, with a total of $40 million of guaranteed money for Mailata, who grew up in Australia.

The 24-year-old was drafted by Philly in 2018 in the seventh round after spending his entire youth playing rugby down under. He was on the injured reserve for the first two years of his NFL career with the Eagles, playing 15 games since. Mailata started 10 contests across the last two seasons.

While his experience at this level is limited, he's very athletic and absolutely huge at 6 foot 8 and 345 pounds. He's one of many impressive talents on the Eagles offensive line who will be looking to keep Jalen Hurts healthy in 2021.

This is definitely a true success story considering that Jordan Mailata has barely touched a football. Hopefully, he can continue to develop and live up to expectations for the Eagles. He's already been named a starter for Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons as well.
