Carson Wentz has an excuse. While the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback hasn't exactly wowed with his play alone, he certainly isn't benefiting from the personnel around him. With Alshon Jeffery and DeSean Jackson done for the season and Nelson Agholor unable to stay on the field for stretches, he is dealing with a patchwork receiving corps, at best.

On Sunday, as pointed out by Martin Frank of the Delaware News Journal, Wentz will be throwing to a group of three receivers—Greg Ward, J.J. Arcega-Whiteside and Robert Davis—that had never caught an NFL pass before the 2019 season.

That's less than ideal.

Arcega-Whiteside enters Sunday's tilt with the Washington Redskins as the Eagles' most productive wide receiver. A second-round selection out of Stanford, the 6-2, 225-pound wideout has eight receptions for 130 yards and a touchdown in 13 games of play in 2019.

Ward has acted as the Eagles' punt returner and slot receiver. Once an undrafted quarterback out of the University of Houston, he joined Philadelphia's practice squad in 2017 to develop as a receiver. He then spent a brief stint with the San Antonio Commanders of the now-defunct AAF.

In four games, Ward has 11 receptions for 79 yards.

Davis started the season with the Washington Redskins. Their sixth-round pick in 2017, he did not haul-in an NFL reception until Week 2 of the 2019 season, with Washington. The Redskins later released him, in turn prompting a move to the Eagles' practice squad. Now, on Sunday, he will face his former team.

It's fair to say that Wentz is not dealing with an ideal situation.
