The Philadelphia Eagles' offseason begins with the departure of one of their most important players. Pro Bowl guard Brandon Brooks announced his retirement from the NFL. The 32-year-old recently had his contract reworked but announced today that his body can't hold up anymore.

Brooks started his career with the Houston Texans, playing there for four seasons before signing with the Eagles ahead of the 2017 season. He made three consecutive Pro Bowls in Philadelphia and helped the franchise win its first-ever Super Bowl. He played a crucial part alongside a dominant offensive line that featured All-Pro lineman Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson and Jason Peters.

Injuries played a gigantic part in Brooks' decision to retire. He missed the entire 2020 season due to a torn Achilles tendon and missed all but two games this past season with a torn pectoral muscle.

Brooks established himself as an Eagles legend with his stellar play and willingness to speak out about mental health struggles. He said that he considers Philadelphia home now and will stay around the area as he enters his new phase in life. In his retirement announcement, he expressed a profound love for his teammates on the Eagles' offensive line and Philly fans.

Although the Eagles still have a strong offensive line, they could look to find more surefire options at the guard spot. Despite having greater needs elsewhere on the roster, replacing Brooks may be something they look to address this offseason as they look to get back to the playoffs.
