The Philadelphia Eagles have dealt with their fair share of injuries in the 2018 NFL season. Their backfield has now suffered another devastating blow with the loss of running back Corey Clement.

Clement suffered a knee injury in Week 14 versus the Dallas Cowboys. The Eagles announced that they have since placed him on injured reserve, via Twitter:

Roster Moves: Eagles have signed DE Daeshon Hall and RB Boston Scott and placed RB Corey Clement and DE Josh Sweat on Injured Reserve.

This is certainly a crushing blow for the Eagles. They have already spent the year trying to establish their backfield with the loss of running back Jay Ajayi. Philadelphia has since largely relied on a committee with Clement serving in a complementary role thanks to his versatile skill set. He registered 259 yards and two touchdowns on 68 carries to go with 22 receptions for 192 yards.

As a result, the Eagles will likely look to running backs Josh Adams and Darren Sproles to carry the backfield moving forward. It is no secret that Adams has established himself as a bit of a bell-cow back thanks to his physicality. Meanwhile, Sproles was finally able to make his return last week versus the Washington Redskins. The veteran managed to make an impact against the Cowboys after hauling in three receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Maintaining their versatility in the backfield will not be an easy task for Philadelphia. Fortunately, they have a favorable matchup against a porous Los Angeles Rams run defense on Sunday. This should provide them with an ample opportunity to establish a new pecking order.
