The Philadelphia Eagles brought in former San Francisco 49ers quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello as an offensive advisor to try and “Shanahan-ize” the offense. Eagles coach Doug Pederson has made it clear the team wants to bring more speed to the offense, something that Scangarello should bring.

Pederson said of the hire to Paul Domowitch of The Philadelphia Inquirer:

“I think what we’ve done as a staff in the offseason with our scheme evaluation, making things better, the staff hires that I’ve done to bring in new thoughts and new ideas and ways to enhance our offense, I think [the offense] is going to look a little bit different.”

The last couple of years the Eagles offense hasn't been as effective, so the team knew it was important to make some changes to try and improve that. Scangarello worked under San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and the hope is what he learned he can introduce to the Eagles. The players are certainly looking forward to what he brings to the table. Backup Eagles quarterback Nate Sudfeld said:

“I’m really excited about the addition of Rich … Just studying him and knowing the [coaching] tree that he came from — working for [Niners coach] Kyle Shanahan and knowing [Rams coach] Sean McVay, who I got to work with in Washington my first year in the league, I just love those offenses and how they marry up the run game and the play-action and the boots and things like that.”

It's going to come down to the players on the field to execute the plays, but it appears the offense will look a lot different, and if all goes as planned, faster. If the team is going to get back to another Super Bowl victory, Scangarello's input could be the difference. The Eagles also addressed their wide receiver deficit via the 2020 NFL Draft, which also should help their offense rebound.
