Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback and NFL analyst Ron Jaworski defended the Eagles' decision to select quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Jaworski told TMZ Sports the Eagles will create new play-calling measures to utilize Hurts' athleticism, even suggesting Hurts could play a role similar to that of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson in his rookie year:

“The guy has too much talent to have him sit on the bench,” Jaws says. “You could create that package for him just like Lamar Jackson had when he first came to Baltimore.”

Jaworski also said the pick makes sense because of Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, one of the most creative offensive minds in football.While Jaworski was quick to endorse the decision to draft Hurts, it puzzled plenty of Eagles fans. The Birds had signed incumbent starter Carson Wentz to a massive extension last summer, and they seemed to have other needs.So, why draft a quarterback?For one, as Jaworski suggested, Hurts can line up all over the field. He is an explosive runner, and the Eagles could devise new schemes to integrate him into the offense.Not to mention, Wentz is far from a sure thing. While he is unquestionably one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFL, Wentz has dealt with injuries throughout the course of his young career.

Given Pederson's ability to work with young quarterbacks, it is possible Hurts could fill in seamlessly should anything happen to Wentz.
