Rookie running back Miles Sanders has been noticeably absent from on-field workouts during Eagles organized team activities, but it seems he will be making his debut soon. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sanders, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury, could be on the field as early as today.

Sanders has received plenty of hype this offseason after being selected in the second round. But his absence has allowed Jordan Howard, who the Eagles traded for in the offseason, a chance to stake his claim as the No. 1 back.

However, Howard is a back with limited pass-catching upside, and with the options beyond him – Corey Clement, Wendell Smallwoord and Josh Adams among them – being largely uninspiring, Sanders' addition to the backfield when healthy will be a welcome boost.

Durability had not been expected to be an issue for Sanders, who entered the NFL with relatively little tread on the tires after spending most of his career at Penn State backing up Saquon Barkley.

His relatively light workload with the Nittany Lions could still be a significant advantage in helping Sanders hold up to the rigors of being an NFL back long-term. Yet in the short-term conditioning may now well be his focus.

Known for his elusiveness and pass-catching ability, Sanders has the skill set to provide a dynamic presence the Eagles haven't had since fielding a healthy, younger Darren Sproles. The good news for the young back is he may get a chance to show off that ability soon.
