The Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles had one of the deepest rosters in the NFL last season, especially at tight end. Along with Pro Bowler Zach Ertz, Brenk Celek continued to produce in 2017 while Trey Burton emerged as a serious red zone threat.

That changed this offseason, as the Eagles released Celek while watching Burton sign with the Chicago Bears. Philadelphia didn't wait long to address these losses, though.

The Eagles agreed to a one-year deal with former Green Bay Packers tight end Richard Rodgers on Wednesday, the team announced.

Rodgers arrived during the playoffs following the 2014 season as Green Bay nearly reached Super Bowl XLIX, and in 2015 he made a career-high 58 receptions for 510 yards and eight touchdowns. However, in the two years since, his usage and production has steadily fallen off.

In 2016, Rodgers only made 30 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns, and this past season, he was only targeted 19 times for 12 receptions, 160 yards, and a single touchdown.

With the addition of star tight end Jimmy Graham, it was an easy decision for the Packers to let Rodgers walk, especially given the fact that he was essentially a non-factor in their game-plan. This upcoming season, Rodgers will look to establish a rapport with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles to hopefully solidify himself as the second tight end on the depth chart behind Ertz.

Along with Burton and Celek, the Eagles also parted ways with speedy deep threat Torrey Smith, but they quickly addressed his departure by signing another former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver in Mike Wallace on a one-year contract.
