Richard Rodgers could finally make his regular-season debut for the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend after getting taken out of the injured reserve, according to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.

Rodgers saw action in Eagles uniform in the preseason, but hit the injured reserve just days before Philadelphia’s Week 1 showdown with the Atlanta Falcons due to a knee injury he sustained in a preseason matchup with the New England Patriots.

To free up a slot for Richard Rodgers on the Eagles’ 53-man roster, the team moved tight end Josh Perkins, who is dealing with a knee issue, to the injured reserve.

Rodgers is obviously thrilled over this latest development, but he also knows that he’s going to need some time to get acclimated again to a live NFL game environment, via Dave Spadaro of the Eagles’ official website.

“There’s going to be an adjustment period. Obviously, I haven’t put the pads on in a while,” Rodgers said on Friday at his NovaCare Complex locker. “I’m just excited to come back and get in the pads again.”

Rodgers is most likely going to play behind Zach Ertz and rookie Dallas Goedert, though, he might be able to leap in front of Goedert depending on how he fares in the coming games.

Rodgers signed a one-year deal worth $880,000 with the Eagles back in April after spending his first three seasons in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers.

So far in his career, he has compiled 1,166 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns on 120 receptions across 63 games.
