The Philadelphia Eagles have been looking to move on from wide receiver Alshon Jeffery for quite some time.

According to Jeff McLane of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Eagles general manager Howie Roseman began shopping Jeffery in trade talks early during the 2019 campaign.

That occurred about a month after Philadelphia guaranteed Jeffery's salary for 2020. As a result, Jeffery became perturbed with the front office because of what he perceived to be mixed messages.

McLane adds that due to Jeffery's contract and declining production, a trade was simply not feasible to be completed ahead of the Week 8 deadline back in October.

There was some hope that the Eagles could potentially deal Jeffery this offseason, but that all but vanished when the wideout suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury in December. He underwent surgery to repair the issue shortly after.

“Obviously, the elephant in the room is Alshon,” Roseman said during a conference call a couple of weeks ago. “Alshon’s got to get healthy. That’s the No. 1 priority for us and for him. He understands. He knows what’s being said about him. He understands that he has a lot to prove and he’s anxious to do that.”

Jeffery remains available in trade talks, but at this point, a deal seems very unlikely for the Eagles.

The 30-year-old played in 19 games this past year, logging 43 catches for 490 yards and four touchdowns in what was his least productive season since his rookie campaign with the Chicago Bears back in 2012.

Jeffery originally joined the Eagles in 2017 and helped lead the club to its first-ever Super Bowl title that season.
