Elden Ring developers FromSoftware have announced that the title has now sold 12 million copies, a little less than a month since its release on February 25, 2022.

FromSoftware announced on Thursday that the game has now sold over 12 million copies, collectively counting sales from both retail and digital. With only five days to sell the game on February, Elden Ring still managed to be the month's top-selling game, beating Horizon Forbidden West and Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Elden Ring's success comes in the midst of performance issues on PC, which didn't douse the game's popularity on the platform, as it has been reported that the game made 44% of its total sales on PC. The press release also coincides with the release of Patch 1.03, which helped improve the game's performance as well as add new content and bug fixes.

For this milestone, FromSoftware CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki says:

“It's astonishing to see just how many people have been playing “Elden Ring.” I'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the entire development team. “Elden Ring” is based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin. We hope players enjoy a high level of freedom when adventuring through its vast world, exploring its many secrets and facing up to its many threats. Thank you for your continued support.”

BANDAI NAMCO CEO Yasuo Miyakawa adds:

“Co-development between FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment has brought about the brand new action RPG, “ELDEN RING,” which has surpassed 12M units in sales worldwide. I would like to use this opportunity to give my thanks to all our fans who have brought “ELDEN RING” into their gaming life. I am very proud to have been involved in bringing such a wonderful and fantastic game to life with FromSoftware, under the guidance of Director Miyazaki, and with George R. R. Martin. Much effort was placed into creating “ELDEN RING” so that we could exceed the expectations of our fans worldwide. In like manner, we will continue our efforts in expanding the brand beyond the game itself, and into everyone’s daily life. We will continue to create enjoyment and fulfillment through entertainment, so that we can come closer and connect to our fans around the world.”

FromSoftware and BANDAI NAMCO will likely still experience sales over the coming months as Elden Ring remains popular in gaming circles. Even after millions of hours spent on the game collectively by players around the globe, secrets are still being found, which then helps increase the interest on the game even more, and even prompts players to revisit the game once again after completing it for at least one playthrough.
