Oklahoma City Thunder big man Enes Kanter was the subject of a lot of headlines recently when he was detained in a Romanian airport after his passport was canceled by his home country of Turkey. The motivation behind this was Kanter's being outspoken of his dismay on the Turkish government and their president, Recep Tayyip Edrogan.

Now back in the U.S. after he was allowed to leave Romania, the 25-year-old appeared on Monday's episode of CBS This Morning, where he admitted that he is receiving death threats almost everyday for his political views.

Per David Morgan of CBS News:

“Appearing on “CBS This Morning” Monday, Kanter said the trouble began while he was in Indonesia: “I was sleeping around 2:30 or something and my manager knocked on my door. He said the Secret Service and the Indonesian army were looking for me because the Turkish government told them I was a dangerous man.”

“We didn't know what we had to do. We escaped the country and went to Singapore, then we came to Romania.”

“I'm getting death threats almost every day, still. I believe when I leave this set, when I leave this room, I'm going to keep getting death threats, but you know what? I stand by what I believe.”

Kanter also discussed how difficult his situation is, but also made it clear that he won't change his beliefs, as he knows he is doing the right thing.

“Of course, it's tough. But I stand by what I believe. I want to be the voice for those innocent people. And I believe what I'm doing is right.”

“I love my country. One day I definitely want to go back to my country, but right now my life is in danger, my family's life is in danger. I can't communicate with my family because if they knew they communicated with me, they'll be in jail.”

The Oklahoma City faithful are hopeful that what he's going through will not serve as a distraction to him as he continues to work on his game.
