Among the hottest and most expensive cards in the hobby is a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card encased in a PSA 9 slab. Earlier this year, the said card sold for $5.2 million when it was auctioned off by PWCC. Just a few days ago, an NFT version of Mantle's iconic card hit the market and sold way more than expected.

In a tweet shared by Topps, a 1952 Mickey Mantle NFT card was auctioned on the OpenSea platform for 175 Ethereum, which is worth $470,711. The kicker here is that the said NFT card is One of One, which means it's the only one of its kind in existence.

This Mickey Mantle digital card is part of Topps' new Timeless NFT Collection and is based on the baseball legends' iconic piece of memorabilia.

In a statement, Topps Digital Sports and Entertainment Vice President and General Manager Tobin Lent said that one passionate fan and collector now has this piece of sports history, unique to their digital collection and sure to be highly prized for generations to come.

โ€œThe excitement and prestige surrounding the Topps 1952 Mickey Mantle card cannot be overstated, and weโ€™re honored to see that legacy continued with this next evolution throughout the auction conclusion and value expressed by all interested bidders,โ€ Lent added.

The said Mickey Mantle NFT card comes minted as an ERC-721 token. A historical video and memorabilia displaying Mantle's career are also included in the purchase of this digital item. The auction's winner will also get the chance to have a 30-minute interview with Danny and David Mantle, sons of the legendary baseball star.
