The Phoenix Suns guards are taking initiative as Eric Bledsoe and second-year man Devin Booker are leading workouts early in the preseason.

According to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic the two have led the charge, readying up for a long season:

“Suns players Eric Bledsoe, Devin Booker and Alan Williams have spent nearly all of their offseason training in Phoenix while most of their teammates have been in and out or have trickled into Talking Stick Resort Arena in recent weeks. Since mid-August, there have been enough players to run five-on-five, full-court games on weekdays with the help of visitors such as Phoenix native and Philadelphia 76ers guard Jerryd Bayless.”

Among the new arrivals in Phoenix are Jared Dudley and Leandro Barbosa — both in their second stint with the team.

“We take it as a good sign that they have a chance to go anywhere and they choose to be here,” said Suns General Manager Ryan McDonough.

Early initiative makes for good bonding with teammates, old and new. Though it still doesn't resolve the puzzle that is the Suns backcourt, which boasts plenty of capable guards.

Booker will have to fight for minutes once again upon the return of starter Brandon Knight.

The inclusion of Archie Goodwin, who had a good showing toward the end of the season, and second-round draft pick Tyler Ulis will also be a thing to keep an eye on.

The Suns will likely try to move some pieces either before or during the season, as they can potentially have six different guards vying for minutes. That could be an unwanted headache for coach Earl Watson.
