Just hours before the Rams received a butt-whooping at the hands of the Patriots, it was revealed that the franchise gave Jeff Fisher a two-year contract extension. The defeat puts their record at 4-8, making it unlikely that Fisher, for the fifth time in five seasons with the Rams, will even finish .500.

Apparently, the extension was signed before the season even started. The fact that it was only just leaked to the media now is peculiar. Also, a televised press conference officially announcing the extension is yet to take place.

The Rams have been mocked for extending Fisher, not only by the media and general NFL fans, but their own fans as well. One of the leading voices bashing Fisher's new contract is Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson, who spent most of his career with the Rams in Southern California.

The pair clashed earlier this season, with Fisher reportedly denying Dickerson sideline access after he made critical comments regarding the team's performance. With the release of this latest news, Dickerson let the floodgates open.

Dickerson tears apart Fisher

From Michael Moraitis of FOX Sports:

“How in the world can you give a guy an extended contract and he has five losing seasons? And I asked Kevin Demoff and he says ‘it’s not about the records.’ OK, what is it about? It’s about him showing up on time? Looking up at the scoreboard real nice like?”

“I’ll say it again; where are the naked pictures? Who has them? Because something is going on here to hire this guy back again for another two seasons. It’s a joke, unless they’re just kind of waiting to try to get the fans to hold on until we get a new stadium and just ride this out. He’s not a winning coach. I just have to say it. Nothing against Jeff Fisher, it’s nothing personal at all, but I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I want our football team, the Los Angeles Rams, to win also and we can’t win with Jeff Fisher as head coach.”

If the Rams continue to perform this poorly, the majority of casual sports fans in Los Angeles might give up on them by the time their new stadium in Inglewood opens.
