ESPN reporters Marc Stein and Tim MacMahon have made a joint statement about their media credentials being revoked by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.

This barring of credentials would render them unable to attend and cover Mavericks home games or enter the arena free of charge as part of the press.

“We want to thank our colleagues throughout the media and the NBA, fellow Professional Basketball Writers Association members and, most of all, ESPN readers and viewers who have offered such tremendous support over the past few days.

“The circumstances that led the Mavericks to deny us entry to their home games remain very difficult to understand, given that the NBA has always been one of the most media-friendly leagues in the world. Yet we’re hopeful that a resolution is near.

“Until then, nothing about the objective and aggressive manner in which we cover the league and its teams will change.”

The two reporters have continued to cover the league per usual as they wait for their employer to straighten things out with Cuban and the Mavericks organization.

Cuban had previously told the Associated Press that his ESPN media blackout was his way to protest the automation of game stories, since there is usually at least one AP reporter at every NBA game.

MacMahon has since covered the Mavericks per usual, including an interview with head coach Rick Carlisle, which he posted on Twitter today.
