ESPN is receiving plenty of attention for their “The Last Dance” documentary featuring the 1997-98 Chicago Bulls. However, it appears they made one key mistake during the first couple of episodes.

While discussing the 1985-85 Bulls, ESPN made an error: they posted the-then Washington Bulls as the Washington Wizards. The problem is, the Wizards didn't exist until 1997. The error occurred as ESPN was showing the Eastern Conference playoff picture from the 1986 playoffs.

Check out the error in the graphic below.

The Washington franchise was known as the “Bullets” from 1974-75 until 1996-97. Then-owner Abe Pollin changed the name of the franchise due to the violent overtones of the word “bullet.”

With that being said, at least ESPN publicly admitted their error and will change it.

“The Last Dance” documentary covers the Bulls' last championship season. It goes in-depth with one-on-one interviews with key figures such as Jordan, Scottie Pippen and head coach Phil Jackson. They also go into detail why the 1997-98 Bulls were the last season of all the main pieces and how general manager Jerry Krause was the main reason for that.

The documentary received a lot of hype prior to its debut. With the nation currently dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, the 10-part series drew 6.1 million viewers for its premiere. As CNBC points out, it's the most-watched documentary in ESPN's history and the most watched program for the network since the college football National Championship.
