Ubisoft unleashed the ban-hammer to Mexican Rainbow Six Siege (R6) team Estral Esports for match-fixing.

GOODBYE, RAINBOW SIX INVITATIONAL

Mexican R6 team Estral Esports will no longer be playing for the Rainbow Six Invitational. An investigation by Ubisoft found Estral Esports' player José “Fungi” Vidales guilty of match-fixing. Ubisoft released a statement, saying,

“We have confirmed that the staff and players of Estral Esports coordinated the match-throw that resulted in Mexico Esports Team (MET) being put into a relegation situation.”

Ubisoft found evidence of match-fixing while investigating an entirely different case. The organizers were investigating a poaching accusation towards Estral Esports' Oscar “Toski” Sepúlveda. While investigating his case, Ubisoft found evidence that Estral Esports staff and players coordinated match-fixing during the final split of the Mexican Championship 2020. This happened during the team's matches against Infinity Esports.

Estral Esports would later win the Major and qualify for the Rainbow Six Invitational. However, in light of these recent developments, the team will no longer be able to compete.

PLAYERS, MANAGEMENT RECEIVE “COMPETITIVE WARNING”

For their role in the match-fixing scandal, players and competitive staff of Estral Esports received a competitive warning. While the players were involved in the execution of the deliberate loss, Ubisoft's investigations suggest that “Estral Esports used its managerial authority to allegedly coordinate a situation of match throwing.” Hence, both the management, for inciting the match-fixing, and the players, who kept mum about the issue, are equally guilty.

For this, Ubisoft gave the competitive staff of Estral Esports and the players Xigmaz, Pixie, Skmzy, Goku, and Max1mus a competitive warning. In case of future offenses, they may face a severe sanction or financial fine.

As for Toski's part, Ubisoft bans him from competing in the 2021 season. His ban from competitive Rainbow Six Siege matches will be in effect for nine months.
