The Washington Redskins fired Jay Gruden after the team got blown out by the New England Patriots in Week 5. Despite promoting Bill Callahan to interim head coach, the situation is still the same for the Redskins.

For Callahan's first game at the helm, the longtime coach was tasked with beating the also winless Miami Dolphins. Fortunately, Washington was able to narrowly escape with their first victory of the season with a 17-16 win over the hapless Dolphins.

Yes, it is positive to see the team finally get into the win column with a 1-5 record before Week 7. But at the same time, the Redskins still looked out of sorts under Callahan against the Dolphins.

The offense had just 311 yards of offense in the game and Case Keenum threw for 166 yards. However, the running game was finally utilized with Adrian Peterson in the backfield; which led to the team winning the game.

Again, it was the Dolphins so the Redskins were expected to win the game. The scary part is, Miami could've taken the game to overtime; if Brian Flores didn't decide to go for a two-point conversion to go for the win.

Sadly, Washington was up 17-3 in the contest and they were unable to hold off the Dolphins offense in the second half. A touchdown pass to DeVante Parker from Ryan Fitzpatrick with six seconds left made the score 17-16.

Instead of going for the extra point, Fitzpatrick threw an incomplete pass to Kenyan Drake. There was a sigh of relief from the Redskins sideline as they got their first win. But they reverted back to their losing ways again in Week 7 against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Redskins hosted the 49ers at FedEx Field in a game that saw less-than-ideal weather conditions. The game was extremely sloppy for both teams with it downpouring for all 60 minutes. Sloppy is a word you could use to describe the Redskins' season from top to bottom.

On the first drive of the game, Washington was able to put together an effective drive with their rushing attack. With Peterson and Wendell Smallwood, the Redskins ran their way to San Francisco's 21-yard line. Sadly, with the rain coming down, Dustin Hopkins missed a 38-yard field goal to give the team the lead to begin the game.

From that moment on, the offense was unable to get into a groove. If someone told you that Washington held the 49ers offense to just nine points, you would've guessed that the Redskins won the game.

On the contrary, the Redskins were shutout by their former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. It was a devastating loss that shows that it is more of the same for the Redskins this season still.

The 49ers are an extremely talented team but there were multiple points in the game that Washington should've been able to seize the momentum. Regardless of it was raining, you shouldn't be scoring zero points in an NFL game.

Until Dwayne Haskins is ready to start, there isn't much to look forward to for Redskins fans. In addition, up to this point, the front office doesn't seem to have their long-term option at head coach on this current coaching staff.
