Tattoos have become an integral part of NBA culture over the years. This generation’s premiere talents certainly rode the trend, as most players proudly display their intricate designs. Even clean-cut guys like Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry couldn’t resist the allure of using his body as a canvass.

Unlike some of his peers who went nuts with the ink, the 3-time NBA champion opted to get small yet meaningful tattoos scattered on his body.

Curry’s minimalist designs are influenced by his unwavering faith and his love for his family. The two-time NBA MVP shied away from big and colorful tattoos but does have several visible ones on his arms.

In fact, Stephen Curry was so fascinated with tattoo culture that his college thesis in Davidson was about the correlation between athletes and their tattoos.

Let’s take a closer look at every known tattoo the Warriors guard has.

“Woe” on right bicep

Curry’s shooting form is indeed a sight to behold, and we usually see the word “woe” scribbled on his right bicep each time he uncorks a jumper.

Turns out, “woe” is abbreviated from “Working On Excellence”, which pretty much sums up his basketball career. The 6-foot-3 guard was never considered a highly touted prospect and slipped to number 7 in the 2009 draft. He had to overcome ankle troubles early in his NBA career before becoming the worldwide megastar that he is today.

Greater than and less than symbol on left bicep

Steph Curry has several matching tattoos with his doting wife Ayesha. The ink he has on his left bicep looks insignificant at first, but it does have a deep religious meaning behind it.

Turns out, the “><“ represents the Bible verse from John 3:30 which states: “He must become greater; I must become less.”

“קרי” symbol on outer side of left wrist

While the 32-year-old basketball icon is not Jewish, he does have a fascination for using Hebrew letters as a tattoo inspiration. The piece on the outside of his left wrist is his most straightforward ink yet, as it simply translates to his family name, Curry.

Stephen Curry reportedly had this done shortly after the Dubs won the title in 2017. The tattoo session turned out to be quite the family affair, as Ayesha and Del also got tattoos.

” האהבה לא תבל לעולם אך” on right wrist

Fans couldn’t help but look at Curry’s hands each time he displays that perfect “flick of the wrist” when he shoots. Inked on his shooting hand is another Hebrew writing from the 1 Corinthians 13:8.

The symbols translate to “Love never fails”, another ode to his wife. Ayesha also shares the same design with his husband.

“TCC 30” on inner left wrist

Seems like Curry is quite fond of abbreviations, as he also shortened “Trust, Commitment and Care” to fit on his left wrist. The number 30, on the other hand, represents his jersey number with the warriors. His father Del also used the same number throughout his NBA career.

“A” on left ring finger

The six-time All-Star loves to express his adoration for Ayesha through art. Perhaps signaling his lifetime commitment to the mother of his three children, Steph had the first letter of Ayesha’s name inked on his ring finger.

Wolf, butterfly, and Unicorn tattoo on right leg

While Curry will likely go down as the best shooter in all of basketball, he also prides himself as a family man.

Steph and Ayesha honored their three adorable children by getting another set of matching tattoos for each one. The wolf represents the youngest and only boy Canon, while the butterfly is their second-born Ryan. Curry’s eldest Riley, who rose to fame in the 2006 Finals post-game interviews, was symbolized as a unicorn.
