In a crazy turn of events, popular rap star Drake is dating Amari Bailey's mother, Johanna Leia. Amari Bailey, a superstar caliber prospect in high school, has recently gained more fame due to his mother's decisions. There have been multiple pictures and videos of Drake hanging out with the young athlete, but it seems Drake's motives were to gain the attention of Leia.
So, after an expensive and exclusive dinner date at Dodger Stadium, it seems Drake and Johanna Leia are officially dating. Even so, Amari Bailey is still a superb athlete that deserves the attention of NBA scouts. However, where does Bailey get his athleticism from? Well, un-widely known to the world, Amari Bailey's father is ex-NFL player Aaron Bailey.
Aaron Bailey played five seasons in the NFL, all of which was with the Indianapolis Colts. He was a receiver from 1994-1998, racking up 1,040 yards and six touchdowns on his career. Bailey didn't play much with the starting lineup though, as he served more as a kick returner on special teams.
Amari Bailey knows that Aaron Bailey almost caught a game-winning pass at the end of the 1995 NFL season's AFC Championship Game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That's what most Colts fans remember him for — he almost made an iconic NFL play and did his very best for that scrappy team quarterbacked by Jim Harbaugh and coached by Ted Marchibroda.
Bailey was a prolific return man for Indianapolis. He finished his career with 173 total returns, 3,696 return yards, and two touchdowns.
Aaron was a speed demon back in his day, and that talent seems to have transferred over to his son Amari Bailey. Aaron Bailey hasn't played professional sports since the 1998-99 NFL season. There isn't much information regarding Aaron Bailey since his retirement from the NFL. However, according to Chaitra Krishnamurthy, Bailey was interviewed in 2013 where he revealed he works in education.
“I currently am a Learning and Behavioral Specialist in the Kentwood Public School district in Michigan where I also reside. I am married (Jennifer) with seven children: Aaron Jr., Ashley, Michael, Airyanna, Amari, Alana, and Aaliyah.”
That explains why we haven't seen Aaron Bailey and Johanna Leia together at Amari's games, as the two are separated. Even so, his athleticism has been passed down to Amari Bailey, as the 17-year old aims for a future in the NBA. Bailey, who is a junior in high school still has a few years ahead of him before making it to the pros.
His potential is through the roof though, as Amari Bailey has already played with the US Under 16 team and won the gold medal. Additionally, he attends Sierra Canyon, which is regarded as one of the best basketball high schools in the nation. As he approaches his senior year next season, he'll have more offers to play in college. He'll have his father, Aaron Bailey, to offer wisdom on what it's like to play in college then transition to the professional level.
With Drake dating his mother, Amari Bailey became a household name sooner than he had anticipated. However, he seems to have strong support from his mother. Drake has been seen mentoring the young man as well. It is unknown how the relationship is between Amari and Aaron, as we haven't seen any photos of the two together surface on social media. Even so, Aaron Bailey can serve as a helping hand to his son's development, as he has experience playing college and professional sports.
This is a story which can continue to grow and acquire layers of meaning we can't yet see or imagine right now. It will be fascinating to watch Amari Bailey embrace the pressures and opportunities that lie ahead of him.
