It is often said in cricket that âcatches win you matchesâ and West Indies international Evin Lewis made it come true. He took an unbelievable one-handed catch to win Wednesday night's Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter for his team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai.
Despite LSG posting a massive score of 210/0 in their innings, KKR found themselves on the cusp of a sensational victory, thanks to Rinku Singhâs brilliant 40 off 15 balls as they needed only three runs to win off the last two balls.
With Rinku in full flight and hitting the ball as cleanly as you would ever see, LSG's hopes of winning the contest hinged on taking wickets and that's what they eventually did. But not before some kind of âunbelievable fieldingâ from Lewis.
After Rinku had already clobbered 18 runs off the first four balls of the final over of KKR's innings, the 24-year-old cricketer attempted to hit the ball over the extra cover boundary, but could only slice it up in the air.
For a moment it appeared like the ball would fall safely in between the two fielders on the long-off and long-leg boundary, but Lewis had other ideas. Out of nowhere, he came into the picture as he chased the ball down from deep backward point before diving to his left to complete what was a breathtaking catch.

Evin Lewis' catch not only gave LSG bowler Marcus Stoinis Rinku's wicket, but it also changed the complexion of the match.
Subsequently, the Australian all-rounder went on to dismiss Umesh Yadav on the final delivery to complete a 2-run victory in an absolute thriller in India's financial capital.
Evin Lewis' catch almost instantly went viral on social media, with many former cricketers, pundits and fans hailing the Trinidadian player for his stunning fielding effort.
âDon't think we will collectively get over that Evin Lewis catch for a long long time!â noted cricket host Gaurav Kapoor tweeted.
On the other hand, ex-New Zealand pacer Danny Morrison termed the catch as an âEwin Lewis specialâ.
Meanwhile, Lewis' catch took former Indian opener Aakash Chopra's breath away as the now renowned pundit posted an astonished face emoji on his Twitter handle.
Fans too were not left behind, as a supporter who was in awe of Lewis' catch posted: âEvin Lewis with a one-handed Blinder, my goodness. What a game, what a finish.â
âEvin Lewis, no cricket fan will forget this catch,â another declared.
