MarShawn Lloyd went through a rigorous recruiting process with plenty of teams wanting to land his services in their 2020 recruiting class. A five-star running back out of DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland, Lloyd decided to take his talents to the South Carolina Gamecocks.

While some may not know what he brings to the field, Lloyd is an explosive playmaker out of the backfield. He has big-time potential and the Gamecocks are getting a potential workhorse back.

Standing in at 5-foot-9 and 205 pounds, Lloyd has the ability to make tough runs as well as break off big plays. He is a dual-threat back that can make plays on the ground or as a receiver out of the backfield. That will fit beautifully with the offense that the Gamecocks currently have in place.

Lloyd is currently ranked No. 7 in the nation among 2020 running backs. He saw offers from teams like Alabama, Clemson, and Florida before deciding to play for South Carolina.

Evan Massey of ClutchPoints.com had the opportunity to sit down with Lloyd for an interview. Lloyd shared quite a few things in the interview and it is must-read material for any college football fan looking to find the next potential star at the running back position.

First up on the agenda was to find out why Lloyd committed to the Gamecocks over the other schools on his list.

“Everyone wants to be apart of something already made. South Carolina is place were I fell in love with instantly, everything about it. With the help on people coming in, I’m ready to make a change. I want my own story, not to be apart of one that’s already started.”

If you haven't had a chance to see Lloyd play, he was happy to break down what he brings to the field.

“Very exciting! I’m able to make a defender miss, run past or through. Can catch out the backfield, as well as break away speed.”

Lloyd also opened up on his biggest strengths and weaknesses at this point in his career. He is ready to get to work and improve as much as possible in every possible way.

“My vision and ability to make a defender miss are my strengths. There’s always room for improvement in my game, so pretty much everything I can work on.”

South Carolina has a very talented 2020 recruiting class and Lloyd can't wait to go to battle with them.

“I want to make a difference. This 2020 class is going to be special. Not really focused on my goals yet, just whatever it takes to make the team better.”

The Gamecocks have a former superstar running back on their staff in Marcus Lattimore. Lloyd has already been in touch with the former star and is going to learn everything he can from him.

“Yes, plenty of times. Such a great guy to learn from. He teaches the players a lot, especially about life after football. Can’t wait to get in and learn as mush as possible from him about football and outside of football.”

While South Carolina hasn't been viewed as a serious contender for quite some time, Lloyd is confident that they will get things turned around very soon.

“Extremely confident! We have a lot of special guys that can change the tradition around here, offensively and defensively.”

For young football players with a dream of playing D1 football in the future, Lloyd has some great advice that begins in the classroom.

“I would tell them to push through in the class room just as hard as working for football. These two go hand and hand. Being a STUDENT-athlete is what gives other students advantages. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Anything is possible.”

Lloyd also stated that when he isn't playing football, he is a “laid back” kind of guy. He finished off the interview giving a shoutout to a few specific people.

“Shoutout to my mom and sisters. As well as Martin Gibson, Bo Hunter, and Damon Daniels.”

South Carolina is getting a top-notch talent and an even better person in their new running back. Lloyd has all the potential in the world and the work ethic to back it up. Things are about to change for the Gamecocks and Lloyd is ready to be a big part of that.
