Otto Porter is going to have to prove he's worth a big contract next season.

The 23-year-old, entering his fourth season in the NBA, is unlikely to reach an agreement on a contract extension with the Washington Wizards this summer, according to CSN MidAtlantic:

Otto Porter appears likely to become a restricted free agent next summer, with no movement towards an extension to his rookie scale contract with the Wizards before starting the 2016-17 season, league sources tell CSNmidatlantic.com.

Porter was selected third overall in the 2013 NBA Draft. He had his best year last season, starting in 73 of 75 games while averaging 11.6 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Porter is entering the final year of his contract. The Wizards have until Oct. 31 to sign him to a contract extension. It seems they're leaning more toward the route of seeing what happens this season, just like they did last year with Bradley Beal, who they ended up signing to a max contract this summer.

Porter has a long way to go before he can demand that kind of money. By foregoing an extension this summer, the Wizards risk Porter signing an offer sheet next summer with another team at a price that may be too high.

Porter may draw some interest around the league, but he's still far from living up to expectations standard of a number three overall pick.
