Red Bull boss Christian Horner defends F1 championship contender Max Verstappen after being called ‘crazy' by Lewis Hamilton during the pair's controversial Saudi Arabian GP incident.

Verstappen was asked to return the leading position to Hamilton after gaining an advantage outside the track. The Dutchman then slowed down, which led to a speeding Hamilton hitting the Red Bull star and damaging his front wing. Hamilton lashed out on the radio, saying, “This guy is f***ing crazy man!.”

Meanwhile, Horner defends his star driver, suggesting that the five-second penalty given to him was somehow unfair.

“He’s certainly not crazy,” Horner told The Times. “You’ve got two guys, different ages, going for the biggest prize in motorsport.

“It’s frustrating. There’s been some confusion. Some incidents get punished, some go unpunished. Max does tend to get the harsher verdict, particularly when you look back at the weekend.”

With both Hamilton and Verstappen boasting identical points, many F1 fans expect an intense battle for the final race in Abu Dhabi. Still, Red Bull's boss stresses that the attempt to win a championship will be made fairly.

“Max wants to win this championship on the track,” Horner said. “It’s as simple as that. He’s a hard racer but a fair racer, and I expect no different this weekend. Nobody wants to win this championship in a gravel trap or in a stewards’ inquiry.

“To finish first, first you’ve got to finish. That’s been our mantra throughout this season.”

Will Hamilton break the record to win his eighth title as the final race approaches this weekend? Or will Verstappen strengthen the pillar of his F1 legacy by winning his first?
