After missing out on the FIA awards ceremony, Lewis Hamilton faces possible sanctions, wherein F1 rival Max Verstappen was crowned as champion.

Newly appointed FIA president Mohammed ben Sulayem stresses that no considerations will be made if an investigation cements Hamilton's violation.

“If there is any breach, there is no forgiveness in this,” he said.

“Forgiveness is always there. But rules are rules,” he added when asked if he was suggesting Hamilton would be punished.

However, Sulayem recognizes Hamilton and Mercedes' devastation after a highly controversial Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which ended with Verstappen winning his first F1 title. Also, the president only talked about it as a possibility and nothing outside of the basic situation—Hamilton's absence.

“I know Lewis is really sad about what happened. I would say he is broken. But we have to look into if there is any breach.

“[After] a few hours now as president, I cannot give answers without going back to the facts.”

Rumors are looming about Hamilton's possible retirement after such a devastating loss, especially since Toto Wolff did not confirm if the seven-time champion is returning next season. Still, many F1 fans and drivers, including Verstappen, wish that Hamilton returns for another action-packed season next year.
