“My greatest inspiration. It was the way he raced, his passion for life and for the sport.”

“But more than anything it was the way he faced alone a system that wasn’t always kind to him. May Aryton Senna’s legacy live on forever, especially vibrant this weekend,” the F1 champion tweeted.

Senna is considered a pillar to Formula 1, inspiring countless people worldwide and incredibly talented drivers like Hamilton.

“In terms of the legacy he’s left Formula 1, that still stands. He is still viewed as one of the greatest drivers of all time. He really did move a whole nation and I’m not aware of another driver that’s really, really done that to that extent, maybe [Juan Manuel] Fangio has.”

Senna is a three-time F1 world champion, winning it all in 1988, 1990, and 1991. Apart from that, the Brazilian garnered 41 Grand Prix wins throughout his illustrious year.

Unfortunately, Senna passed away after crashing into a concrete barrier at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix. Still, his legacy is evident up to this day and is remembered by his former team, McLaren, naming a car after Senna.

Today, Hamilton is gunning for his eighth F1 title, trailing behind Max Verstappen. Regardless of this year's result, the British driver has cemented himself among the all-time greats, amassing 100 race wins.
