Mercedes' head of trackside engineering, Andrew Shovlin, drops a truth bomb on F1 star Lewis Hamilton and his pace during the Qatar GP.

The British star delivered a masterclass in Qatar, outlasting his rival, Max Verstappen. Hamilton's performance in Qatar marks as a display of his capabilities amid Verstappen's close bid to reach the title. Still, the seven-time world champion has a clear shot at glory with just two races left.

Apart from winning the race, Hamilton was quite ahead of his competition at the Losail International Circuit, and Shovlin explains that “nothing explains” this occurrence.

“The margin, yes,” Shovlin replied when asked if he was surprised by the W12’s dominance in Qatar. “We thought we’d be good here, but this was the track that of the three that remained as we came in here the one we were perhaps most concerned about.

“But he’s really in the zone at the moment and we can do all our simulations but nothing explains why he was that far ahead, ahead of Max, it’s fundamentally just down to him really sort of digging deep and doing what needs to be done.”

Hamilton aims to mount a herculean comeback for his eighth F1 title, as he trails by 8 points behind Verstappen. Meanwhile, Mercedes as a team looks to maintain their narrow 5-point lead over Red Bull in the constructor's championship.
