Mercedes have filed a request for ‘Right of Review' following the controversial clash between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton on Lap 48 at the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Sao Paulo GP was full of exhilarating action as Hamilton weaved his way through the field after having to incur several penalties over the race weekend. On Lap 48, Hamilton was finally close enough to make a move on Verstappen heading into turn 4 of the circuit.

From there, Verstappen made an aggressive-defensive move on Hamilton which forced the Brit to go off track. Questions were swirling around the paddock on whether or not Verstappen's defense was illegal or not. However, the F1 stewards later announced that upon review, no further investigation was needed.

To much surprise, it was later revealed that Verstappen's onboard was unavailable to the F1 stewards as they were reviewing the incident. The stewards clarified that they would review the clash between the two championship rivals as soon as footage had become available to them. This is where Mercedes come in.

Mercedes were quick to pounce on this opportunity—filing a ‘Right of Review' to the stewards as soon as possible. The onboard footage was also disseminated across social media through ESPN F1 for public viewing. Mercedes also put out a public statement regarding the incident.

Via Formula 1:

“The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team confirms that we have today requested a Right of Review under Article 14.1.1 of the International Sporting Code, in relation to the Turn 4 incident between Car 44 and Car 33 on lap 48 of the Brazilian Grand prix, on the basis of new evidence unavailable to the Stewards at the time of their decision.”

Will Red Bull and Verstappen come away unscathed or will Mercedes and Hamilton be triumphant in their appeal? F1 fans around the world will have to wait and see.
