Red Bull was left scratching their heads after team principal Christian Horner reveals Lewis Hamilton’s pace was ‘unraceable’ at the F1 Brazilian Grand Prix.

It was no secret that Hamilton came into the weekend with a brand new engine with handed him a 5-place grid penalty. On top of that, Hamilton had breached F1 DRS rules and regulations prior to the sprint race qualifying which pushed him to the back of the grid. After which, Hamilton finally lined up 10th at the starting grid for the main race. The thing that was unaccounted for was the unparalleled pace of Hamilton—which Horner says was ‘unraceable’.

F1 Team boss Christian Horner said: “We won’t be protesting after this race. It is important to understand where the speed has come from.”

“Obviously they had a new engine here. They are running Monaco levels of downforce, and when he passed Max he was close to 30km/h quicker on that lap.”

“It [the Mercedes] was unraceable,” he said. “We put up as big a defence as we could. Max did his best, he raced hard, but there was just no chance.”

Despite leading for 60 or so laps, Max Verstappen could no longer survive the onslaught brought by Hamilton and conceded the race win to the 7-time F1 world champion. Similarly, Sergio Perez could not hold on to his podium place after being overtaken by Valtteri Bottas as well.

A tough outing for the Milton Keynes-based team, but with the F1 season down to its last three races, there’s absolutely no time to waste and they’ll definitely look to get back on track as soon as possible.
