The Atlanta Falcons selected Boston College Eagles offensive lineman Chris Lindstrom with the 14th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft on April 25.

NFL.com national insider Ian Rapoport tweeted the Falcons drafting Lindstrom surprised many football fans.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff expressed excitement about Lindstrom on the the team's official twitter account after he was selected.

“Really excited about our first pick, Chris Lindstrom, Boston College,” he said. “Tough, urgent, athletic. Will add a dimension to this offensive line that we will really appreciate, and we know you will. Let's go – keep risin' up!”

Atlanta has been extremely aggressive upgrading its offensive line this season. In March, the team signed guard James Carpenter to a four-year, $21 million contract and fellow guard Jamon Brown to a three-year $19 million deal. Both players fit what the Falcons were looking for from their interior offensive lineman in terms of sheer size and strength.

Lindstrom, at 6-foot-4, 308 pounds, doesn't have the girth of Brown and Carpenter but makes up for it with athleticism. He ran a 4.91 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, the second-fastest time among all offensive linemen, and also tested well in the vertical jump and broad jump.

He should make an immediate impact on the Falcons' offensive line at tackle, though he played both inside and outside at Boston College.  Atlanta gave up 108 quarterback hits last season, and also ranked second-worst in terms of “stuff runs for no gain or losses” in 2018, per D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The Falcons missed the postseason for the first time in three years in 2018. Is Lindstrom the missing piece? Atlanta fans sure hope so.
