Dirk Koetter did not remain unemployed for very long.

One week after being fired from his post as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach, Koetter has landed a job as the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

In addition, the Falcons also hired Mike Mularkey as tight ends coach, according to the team.

Ironically enough, Koetter agreed to join the Falcons' coaching staff on the same day the Buccaneers hired Bruce Arians as his replacement.

Koetter coached Tampa Bay for three years, going 19-29 without any playoff appearances. He got off to a decent start with the Bucs, putting together a nine-win campaign that appeared to show the team was headed in the right direction in 2016, but he then posted back-to-back five-win seasons in 2017 and 2018, resulting in his dismissal.

This will also mark Koetter's second stint as Atlanta's offensive coordinator, as he also held the position from 2012 through 2014 before becoming the Buccaneers' offensive play-caller in 2015.

The 59-year-old earned his first NFL coaching job in 2007, when he was named offensive coordinator of the Jacksonville Jaguars, a post he held for four seasons.

Prior to making the jump to the NFL, Koetter was a head coach for two college teams, serving as at the helm for Boise State from 1998 through 2000 and then holding a post as Arizona State's head coach from 2001 through 2006.

The Falcons went just 7-9 this past season, resulting in the firing of offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian. This was Atlanta's first year without a postseason appearance since 2015.

The Falcons made back-to-back trips to the playoffs in 2016-17 and 2017-18, with the former ending in a devastating Super Bowl loss to the New England Patriots in which Atlanta blew a 28-3 lead.
