The Atlanta Falcons are going to do right by wide receiver Julio Jones. They want to lock up the superstar and All-Pro before the 2019 regular season; it's what he's wished for this offseason.

According to The Athletic's Jeff Schultz, Falcons owner Arthur Blank affirms that his team is “very, very close” to reeling in an extension with Jones before September 8th (the team's first game). He said:

“I’d be surprised and disappointed if we didn’t get it done this week. … I think it’s very reasonable to assume it will get done this week.”

Doing so isn't new news for Falcons Nation or Blank. He, along with the rest of Atlanta's brass, has stated on multiple occasions that they want to get a deal done before the season starts. Last week, when asked if he hopes that it'll happen, Blank said to D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

“I would hope so, but I don’t know that. We’ll have to let things take their course. I know that we are definitely in serious negotiations. It’s our goal, and their goal, as well to get it done before the start of the season.”

It appears to be only a matter of time until Jones gets that new contract extension. It's not going to be cheap, though, considering that Michael Thomas of the New Orleans Saints recently received a five-year $100 million contract — worth $20 million per season.

However, Jones is worth that for the Falcons offense. Since entering the league in 2011, he's been to six Pro-Bowls and has earned three first-team All-Pro nods. He isn't slowing down either, as, in 2018, he received both.
