After missing the Atlanta Falcons' Week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers, star wide receiver Calvin Ridley will sit out the team's next three games as he deals with his mental wellbeing.

In their latest press release, the Falcons announced that they have placed Ridley on the reserve/non-football injury list. The designation means the veteran wideout will miss a minimum of three weeks before he can rejoin the active 53-man roster.

With that said, Ridley won't be playing against the New Orleans Saints, Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots.

Ridley was a surprise scratch before the team's showdown against the Panthers, with Atlanta citing “personal matter” as the reason for his absence. Later on, the 26-year-old took to Twitter to reveal the truth about what he is dealing with.

“These past few weeks have been very challenging and as much as I'd like to be on the field competing with my teammates, I need to step away from football at this time and focus on my mental wellbeing. This will help me be the best version of myself now and in the future,” Ridley wrote.

It remains to be seen if Calvin Ridley will return to the team after the initial three weeks since it's possible his absence could extend beyond that, but the Falcons have certainly been supportive of him.

Atlanta is currently 3-4 on the season, and while Ridley's absence is a big blow, the rest of the team must step up and fill the void he has left until he's better physically and mentally.
