Dirk Koetter has a new job if he wants it.

According to  D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach may be moving a little further north to Atlanta, after the Falcons offered him the offensive coordinator position not long ago.

Koetter quickly became the front-runner for the Falcons' position after the Bucs fired him late this season.

Koetter, who is expected to take the position, beat out Seattle offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and former Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey for the position, so the competition was nothing if not fierce.

When he takes over, he will be replacing Steve Sarkisian, who was one of three Falcons coordinators that were fired after a dismal 7-9 season.

Koetter was also, for a time, in the running for the offensive coordinator position for the Minnesota Vikings, who were hoping to recruit him after Kevin Stefanski's contract was up for renewal.

But Koetter's record is, at best, spotty. When he was the Bucs' head coach, he went 19-29 in three seasons — which isn't bad but isn't great, either.

However, when Koetter was the Falcons' offensive coordinator from 2012 to 2014, quarterback Matt Ryan threw for 32, 26 and 28 touchdowns and earned Pro Bowl honors twice.

Additionally, Koetter served as the offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2007 to 2011.

Prior to joining the NFL, Koetter had an illustrious career in college football: he was the head coach at Boise State University from 1998 to 2000 and at Arizona State University from 2001 to 2006, and compiled a career college football record of 66–44 in those nearly 10 years on the college field.
