One of the biggest problems that the Atlanta Falcons aimed to fix coming into the 2019 season was their offensive line depth.

After getting hit with a wave of injuries to multiple positions last year, the Falcons know they needed to address it coming into a new year. Now, they feel that they’ve done just that.

Speaking to the media about a litany of team-related issues, general manager Thomas Dimitroff noted that the moves the Falcons made were all done with a purpose.

That purpose is to make sure that the injuries that affected them last year wouldn’t hurt the team as much as it did during their 2018 season.

“I personally felt I would never put this team in that situation again where, God forbid, we had injuries [and] that we were limited in overall depth at the position, especially interior,” Dimitroff said, via the team’s website. “That we were going to make sure we had a rotation there that was going to be legitimate and accomplished.”

During the season last year, the Falcons lost both starting offensive guards, and it showed throughout the year. To try and help bolster their depth, they signed Jamon Brown, James Carpenter, and Adam Gettis during the offseason.

The Falcons also spent two draft picks on the offensive line, tacking guard Chris Lindstrom and tackle Kaleb McGary in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Needless to say, the Falcons clearly went into the offseason looking to tackle one specific need.

Only time will tell if they were able to do that, but by signing and drafting as many options as possible, they’ve given themselves the best chance at never having to worry about offensive line depth again.
