The Atlanta Falcons are not expected to reach a new deal with defensive lineman Grady Jarrett before the deadline on Monday, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Jarrett participated in Falcons minicamp, and there hasn't been any indication that he will hold out of training camp.

Atlanta placed a franchise tag on Jarrett earlier this offseason. He is scheduled to make $15.2 million in 2019.

Jarrett is coming off of a 2018 campaign in which he played 14 games and registered 52 tackles, six sacks and three forced fumbles in what was his best season to date.

The 26-year-old, who played his collegiate football at Clemson University, was originally selected by the Falcons in the fifth round (137th pick overall) of the 2015 NFL Draft.

He appeared in 15 contests during his rookie year, finishing with 24 tackles and a sack in a reserve role. He then went on to become a starter during his second season, participating in all 16 games and totaling 48 tackles, three sacks and a fumble recovery.

Jarrett's steady improvement continued in 2017, as he played in every game and recorded 55 tackles and four sacks.

Atlanta won just seven games this past year, missing the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign. The Falcons made it all the way to the Super Bowl in 2016-17, famously blowing a 28-3 lead in a loss to the New England Patriots.

With a high-powered offense and a defense that should be much healthier than it was in 2018, the Falcons are expected to be a playoff contender in the NFC heading into 2019.
