The Atlanta Falcons signed running back Todd Gurley to a one year deal, but they won't know for a while if his knee is actually “right.” The Los Angeles Rams tried to find a trade partner for Gurley, but the Falcons waited until he was released to sign him to a $6 million deal.

With the league rules surrounding the coronavirus, teams haven't been able to send their own doctors to do physicals, so the Gurley deal is still contingent on that being completed.

Gurley has arthritis in his left knee that has hurt his production, and the Falcons won't know how bad the knee actually is for a while:

“They have to make sure Gurley is right,” one league exec said via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. “We might not know that for a while.”

According to Jeff Schultz of The Athletic, the knee is still very bad, which can't be a good sign for a long career for Gurley:

“Once a player has an arthritic condition, you don't know what's going to happen,” a source told Schultz. “It's different for every person. You're sort of playing Russian roulette because you never know how fast it will accelerate.”

It's still a low-risk deal for the Falcons but they need him to have a big year. In the last few years, the Falcons have had issues finding someone to rely on in the backfield.

Matt Ryan, Julio Jones, and Calvin Ridley are a problem for defenses, and with a strong running game, they will be even harder to slow down.
