The Atlanta Falcons are backpedaling after the team's supposedly fool-proof plan failed to come to fruition. Atlanta was almost certain that they would be the team picking up Deshaun Watson only hours ago. Now, the former Houston Texans quarterback is the newest face of the Cleveland Browns, and the Falcons are panicking.

Matt Ryan has been the starting quarterback of the Falcons since he was drafted in 2008. The veteran and his team agreed to push back the due date of his $7.5 million roster bonus from Friday until Tuesday. The move gave Ryan more time to explore trade offers, as well as the Falcons an opportunity to meet with Watson.

Now, Atlanta is working to make amends with their longtime quarterback. NFL insider Ian Rapoport tweeted the team's Plan B Friday afternoon.

Ironically, the Falcons are in a very similar situation to that of the Browns yesterday. Cleveland tried to win back Baker Mayfield after talks between the team and Watson seemed to go south. Mayfield wasn't interested in rekindling a relationship with the Browns and requested a trade.

There are still a few teams on the market for a quarterback this offseason, and rumor has it that the Indianapolis Colts could be his future place of employment. The Colts quarterback vacancy opened up after the team traded starter Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders. If Ryan does request a trade, the Falcons are in deep trouble.
