In the last few weeks, Atlanta Falcons star linebacker Deion Jones has continued to make progress toward making his return to the field after suffering a foot injury in the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Falcons have been taking the precautionary route with his recovery, but it appears that he may finally be nearing his return as head coach Dan Quinn hinted at that possibility on Monday stated Jones went through ‘an excellent day' of practice, according to William McFadden of Atlantafalcons.com.

There had previously been reports that he could return to the field for Week 11 action against the Dallas Cowboys, but Quinn had voiced that Jones was still a little bit of a ways before he could have returned to the field. This isn't to state that he will be back in the fold for this week's action, but the positive comments shed light on the type of progress that he has made with this injury.

Jones is coming off earning his first Pro Bowl nod last year after racking up a career-high 138 tackles along with three interceptions. His return in the second half of the season should provide the Falcons defense with a much-needed boost to help their playoff push in what will likely be a tight race down the stretch in the NFC. Atlanta has dug themselves in a bit of a hole after dropping their last three straight games that have pushed them potentially on the brink of missing the playoffs.

There should be more clarity on his status over the last several days as he will have to go through practice this entire week first to prove that he is physically ready to play. Barring any setbacks over the next few days, he may be on track to play in this week's matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
