Despite the on-field struggles of the Atlanta Falcons, there was apparently no sour ending to the team's relationship with former head coach Dan Quinn. He was fired from the position after a dismal 0-5 start to the 2020 NFL season, concluding a five-year run with the franchise.

The Falcons posted Quinn's departing letter to the city and the team via Twitter:

The Salisbury State product made a name for himself in the league when he served as a defensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks from 2013 to 2014. His time with the team proved to be fruitful as it gave birth to the Legion of Boom which was the Seahawks' secondary group which rose to prominence during the 2010s.

It consisted of tenured defensive players including the likes of  Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Walter Thurmond, and Byron Maxwell. The group anchored the Seahawks to a successful Super Bowl XLVIII title run in 2013.

After his stint in Seattle, Quinn found a new home in the Atlanta Falcons organization where he was given the first head coaching opportunity of his career back in 2015.

In the 2016 season, his team finished the year with an 11-5 record, which was good enough to win the NFC South division and helped them clinch a first-round bye in the playoffs.

The Atlanta-based squad eventually won the NFC Championship against the Green Bay Packers by way of a 44–21 dominating performance. They clinched a Super Bowl LI berth to match up against the Bill Belichick-led New England Patriots. Up by 28-3 in the third quarter, the Falcons blew the largest lead in Super Bowl history and lost the game in overtime by a 34-28 decision.

Due to a string of disappointing performances, he along with former general manager Thomas Dimitroff were both released by the Falcons in the early stages of the 2020 NFL season.

Quinn closed his tenure in Atlanta with a 43-42 (.506) regular season record, 3-2 (.600) playoff record, and a 46-44 (.511) career record.
