Just a couple of days after signing defensive tackle Grady Jarrett to a big extension, the Atlanta Falcons signed linebacker Deion Jones to a four-year, $57 million extension, with $34 million of the contract guaranteed. With his contract issues out of the way, Jones is ready to get to work with the Falcons and plans on staying just as motivated as he was prior to the deal.

Speaking to the media at a press conference regarding the extension, Jones spoke about how motivated he’ll continue to be, via Pro Football Talk transcription.

“I feel like if you have a vision that’s bigger than the stage you’re in now, you have no choice but to keep going and stay motivated,” Jones said. “I’m not done, still have a lot more I want to accomplish so definitely not done.”

While Jones has been taking it easy during the offseason and first day of training camp – he and wide receiver Julio Jones are nursing foot injuries and easing themselves in – the linebacker is still prepared to get to work. After helping to lead the Falcons to a Super Bowl in 2016, Jones broke out in 2017, becoming a Pro Bowl selection and tallying up 138 tackles and three interceptions.

Unfortunately for Jones, his 2018 was marred with injuries, and he wasn’t able to fully play out the year, but when healthy, he’s one of the top linebackers in the game. His innate skills and ability to cover running backs and wide receivers makes him a huge factor in the Falcons defense, and if the team wants to once again contend for a Super Bowl, they’ll need him to be at 100 percent when the regular season arrives.
