With Sunday's matchup approaching against one of the NFC's top teams in the Minnesota Vikings, the Atlanta Falcons have gotten one of their best offensive weapons back. Star running back Devonta Freeman has cleared concussion protocol and will likely play this weekend when the Falcons host the Vikings at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Falcons head coach Dan Quinn made the announcement during an appearance this morning on 92.9 WZGC-FM, a local Atlanta sports radio station.

“The good news for Freeman is he's back practicing today,” Quinn said. “So he's been cleared through the protocol and we're pumped to have him back in action.”

Freeman has missed the last two Falcons' games after he suffered his second concussion of the year on Atlanta's first offensive series against the Dallas Cowboys during Week 10.

“We’re going to always take great care of our guys,” Quinn said, per Matt Winkeljohn of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We care about them on the field, off the field, and so that’s the doctors and the medical side to determine when he’s ready to play, and we totally trust the process that the league and the team goes through, and we are 100 percent excited to have him back.”

Fellow running back Tevin Coleman has done a fantastic job in his absence, which includes a great performance last week in Atlanta's 34-20 win over their NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In the contest, Coleman rushed for two touchdowns while gaining 97 yards on the ground on 19 carries.
