Atlanta Falcons running back Devonta Freeman has missed nearly the entire season with a groin injury and was placed on injured reserved back in Week 6.

Freeman played briefly in Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles in the season's opening game. The Falcons star running back missed three weeks before coming back against the Pittsburgh Steelers, only to leave this game as well. The injury cost Freeman his season although head coach Dan Quinn stated that Freeman might be able to return this season.

Freeman ran the ball 14 times for 68 yards and caught five passes for 23 yards in the two games he was active. Unfortunately, it does not make much sense for the Falcons to get Freeman back out on the field this season considering they are in last place in the NFC South at 4-8. It may be in Freeman's best interest if they shut Freeman down for the season as they are fighting an uphill battle in hopes of reaching the playoffs.

Freeman is an extremely talented player and the tandem alongside fellow running back Tevin Coleman has been a nice one-two punch in recent years. This was definitely not the Falcons desired way to see the season play out, but a lot of their struggles came because of numerous injuries. Along with Freeman, the Falcons lost numerous defensive stars for extended periods of time as well. Linebacker Deion Jones missed a majority of the season, while safeties Keanu Neal and Ricardo Allen were lost for the season with their respective injuries. Falcons have a playoff caliber team pending their key players are healthy.
