The Atlanta Falcons announced Wednesday morning that rookie offensive lineman Kaleb McGary is set to undergo a cardiac ablation procedure. This procedure is expected to be just like the other two procedures he has already gone through during his playing career.

It's unclear what caused the need for this surgery but McGary was participating during the beginning of training camp. Last Saturday Falcons coach Dan Quinn said he was very pleased how the Falcons first-round draft pick was progressing.

“I thought (he is) really pushing Ty in a close fight and a close battle,” Quinn said of McGary via the Falcons team website. “All of the things that go on in the first install he was able to handle very well, and that’s a testament to the work he put in over the summer to get right and get ready … I’m encouraged where he’s at, and I think he’s gaining momentum and trust in what he’s doing.”

McGary was a standout at the University of Washington and was selected by the Falcons with the 31st pick in April's draft. The Falcons also selected Chris Lindstrom out of Boston College with the 14th overall pick.

The last time that McGary underwent the procedure he was with the Huskies and he missed six to eight weeks of action. Schefter reports that a timetable will be decided after the procedure but it seems that six to eight weeks is probably what should be expected this time too. Hopefully, McGary can return quickly and be a solid addition to the Falcons offensive line this year.
