Atlanta Falcons starting quarterback Matt Ryan went down early in the fourth quarter of Atlanta's 37-10 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. Ryan injured his ankle on an Aaron Donald sack — the Rams' fifth on Ryan. Luckily, the injury is not believed to be serious, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Ryan was examined on the bench before heading into the locker room. He left the game with a walking boot on his right foot. He will have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the severity of the injury.

38-year-old veteran Matt Schaub filed in for Ryan. He threw 6 of 6 for 65 yards and a touchdown in his limited playing time.

“Well, we'll have a better sense for that as the week goes,” coach Dan Quinn said after the game, per ESPN. “I didn't get a chance to visit with him yet after the game, so we'll get a better sense for where we'll go. If he's not able to [go], obviously we'll lean on Matt Schaub, who's got plenty of experience.

Ryan has not missed a game since 2009 — when he battled a turf toe injury.

“I know how tough Matt [Ryan] is, Quinn continued. “‘If there's a chance he can go — I don't know the extent of the injury, where we're at yet, so I think I'll have a better answer Monday, Wednesday, Thursday as we're heading into the week, but I don't know the extent of it yet.”

After Sunday's loss, the Falcons are 1-6. It's fair to wonder if Ryan will miss extended time to avoid re-injury in what looks to be a wasted season.
